Hon. Atim Odwong Beatrice Anywar

Hon. Beatrice Atim Anywar is a seasoned public servant, legislator and environmental policy leader with more than three decades of experience in governance, environmental management, public administration, marketing and strategic leadership. As Minister of State for Environment, she provides leadership in environmental governance, climate resilience, pollution control, afforestation and sustainable development.

She served as Woman Member of Parliament for Kitgum District and Kitgum Municipality from 2006 to 2021, during which she held several leadership responsibilities, including Shadow Minister for Environment in 2006, Shadow Minister for Natural Resources and Minerals in 2013, and Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Labour and Social Development from 2016 to 2021.

She also served as Founding Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change. Hon. Anywar is particularly recognised for her environmental advocacy, including the Save Mabira Forest Campaign and initiatives relating to plastic waste, environmental protection and climate-responsive legislation.

Before joining Parliament, she worked as Commercial and Customer Care Officer at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation from 1996 to 2004, Senior Marketing Officer at Vitaform (U) Ltd from 1994 to 1995, and Depot Manager at UFEL Uganda from 1991 to 1993.

She obtained a Higher Diploma in Marketing in 1991, a Bachelor of Public Administration in 2005, a Master of Arts in Public Administration and Management from Makerere University in 2006, and a Certificate in Democracy and Governance from Marquette University in 2009. She was also awarded an Honorary PhD in Humanity in 2023.
